Day One Blog
In the days to come, I am most excited about the clinical experiences and seeing all of the different departments. I feel that this will be a wide range of patient cases and I am excited to shadow a nurse at the hospital and see how they care for their patients as I know it is different than how we care for our patients. I am also very excited about being in a new culture that is not my own. I think that it is exciting to be able to visit a new hospital. I like to see how they are set up and the services and different units that they have as well as what their policies for patient care are. My apprehensions are that I am curious as to what they do for medications because I know that they often treat their illnesses with herbs and oils so that would be my apprehension is to how it works in their body. For my thoughts about native American people, I have a lot of respect for them and for their culture. Throughout history, they have been through a lot of hardships and it is sad that they are given reservations to live on and often live in poverty and have struggles. I also really like how they have a lot of respect for their elders and they follow their family heritage path. They have learned English but many of them are learning or speak their native language as well. My biases that I need to set aside is that they do not all dislike us. I think that it is easy to feel uncomfortable because even though we were not responsible for what was done to them, our ancestors sadly were. However, I do not think that we would be allowed in the hospital if it wasn’t a safe situation and I am hoping to take to some of the people and learn more about them. I want to be open minded and listen to what they have to say. Overall, today was a good day of travel and I am looking forward to the museum tomorrow and all of our activities to come.
